Ten players who ran the show in the First Round of the 2024 Nile Conference

It’s halfway through the 2024 Nile Conference, and a group of players have – one way or another – run the show at the Hassan Mostafa Indoor Sports Complex in Cairo.

In no particular order, here’s a close look at how ten players impacted the first six games of the conference, running until Saturday, April 27.

ROLLY FULA (Bangui Sporting Club)

In three games, the Congolese shooting guard has done a bit of everything for the Central African Republic champions.

From contributing defensively with timely stops to scoring, Fula has been a dynamic force, averaging a team-high of 21.6 points per game.

Fula shot 63% from beyond the 3-point line while helping Bangui SC to a 1-2.

EHAB AMIN (Al Ahly SC)

Amin’s name has become synonymous with Al Ahly SC’s success, and the 29-year-old guard hasn’t disappointed in the opening three games of the conference.

When the BAL reigning champions needed him, the energic Amin responded with his aggressive plays on both ends of the floor.

Agusti Bosch’s team is often credited for its collective effort, and much of their 3-0 mark is down to Amin’s 13 points per game and much more.

MARK LYONS (Al Ahly SC)

In a team with several scoring options, Lyons remains Al Ahly SC’s go-to man guy, and his team-highs of 13. 3 points and 3.3 assists per game do justice to his influence on the team.

PRINCE ALI (Al Ahly SC)

One of the reasons why Al Ahly SC got away with a narrow 85-79 win over Bangui Sporting Club was precisely because of Ali’s scoring prowess.

Ali, who averaged 12.7 points in the opening three games of the conference, shot 3-for-4 from beyond the arc to finish with 14 points to prevent Bangui SC from improving to 2-2.

KEVIN MURPHY (Al Ahly Ly)

A natural scorer, Murphy has done it all from every corner of the floor.

And his team-high of 22.7 points per games continue to boost BAL debutants Al Ahly Ly’s playoff aspirations.

JO-LUAL ACUIL (Al Ahly Ly)

Acuil had a slow start, finishing with just 5 points and 5 rebounds in the conference opener against Bangui SC.

But, he has since become a dominant force in the paint, where he continues to capitalize with his 6-foot-11 frame.

Acuil ranks second in scoring for the Libyan champions thanks to his now 16 points per game. He has also averaged 6.7 rebounds per game.

THIERRY DARLAN (Bangui Sporting Club)

What a difference two years have made to Darlan, who debuted in the BAL two years ago as an 18-year-old!

From being a relatively timid player to now becoming a vocal leader and one of the most dominant players this season, Darlan has massively boosted Bangui SC’s chances of fighting for a playoff spot.

In addition to registering two double-doubles in three games, Darlan currently averages 17 points and 9 rebounds per game.

KHAMAN MALUACH (City Oilers)

The 17-year-old has established a record for most blocks in a single BAL game when he swatted 7 shots against Al Ahly Ly.

Maluach emerges as one of the top performers of the first round of the 2024 Nile Conference, averaging 20.3 points, and league-highs of 12.7 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game.

He has recorded two double-doubles in three games.

PATRICK REMBERT (City Oilers)

It didn’t take long for Rembert to convince City Oilers head coach Karim Nesba that he is one of the team’s main options at point guard.

In his City Oilers debut, Rembert came off the bench to finish with team-highs of 21 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists.

The 34-year-old playmaker averaged 17 points and 4 assists in three games.

PIERRE JACKSON (Al Ahly Ly)

Jackson has been so impactful for Al Ahly Ly that when he limped off the court with a foot injury against City Oilers, the Libyan champions never looked the same again.

He averaged 23 points in the first two games of the conference.

Stay tuned for the final six gamesof the 2024 Nile Conference, starting Wednesday, April 24.
